Riparian Buffer Resources

Funding Available from RC&D for Buffer Projects

North Jersey RC&D has received funding from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, through their Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program to implement riparian buffer restoration in the Upper Delaware and Wallkill Watershed regions.  The Upper Delaware and Wallkill Watersheds includes all of Warren and Sussex Counties and parts of  Morris and Hunterdon Counties.

The goal of this program is to plant riparian buffers on land use types such as  residential, agricultural and natural lands throughout the watersheds. Project sites should have strong support from the landowner and community organizations to assist with the project organization, installation and long-term site maintenance.

Site Nomination Form

Map of areas eligible for funding

What we need is your knowledge of the region.  We need you to nominate areas in your community that could benefit from a riparian restoration project along a stream or lake.

**Keep in mind that this program is focusing on restoring the vegetated riparian buffer, not stabilizing eroding streambanks.  If your site has major erosion concerns those would need to be corrected prior to restoring the riparian buffer.

If you have a site that would potentially meet the program’s requirements please complete a Site Nomination Form and return it to our office for review.  A Riparian Advisory Team will be evaluating the site nomination forms received and make recommendations for funding approval.
