A full day of informative panels and speakers for those interested in, advocating for, and implementing no-till and cover crops!
The New Jersey No-till and Cover Crop Conference will be Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Hawk Pointe Golf Course in Washington, NJ. The day-long conference features nationally renowned experts in the field of no-till and cover crops and cutting-edge ideas and strategies to improve the profitability and efficiency of your farm operation. Break-out sessions will address specific topics such as livestock integration, breaking up pest cycles with crop rotation, and equipment retrofits.. And to top it all off – the conference includes soil health research done by RC&D On Farm Trials and great food with exhibitor networking and pesticide credits will be available!
No-till farming (also called zero tillage or direct drilling) is a way of growing crops or pasture from year to year without disturbing the soil through tillage. A cover crop is a plant that is used primarily to slow erosion, improve soil health, enhance water availability, smother weeds, and help control pests and diseases. Cover crops have also been shown to increase crop yields, break through a plow pan, add organic matter to the soil, improve crop diversity on farms and attract pollinators. There is an increasing body of evidence that growing cover crops increases resilience in the face of erratic and increasingly intensive rainfall, as well as under drought conditions.
The conference focus is on soil health and is designed to bring together farmers to discuss how no-till practices can be used more successfully.
The keynote speaker, Jason Mauck, Indiana native and farmer/CEO of Constant Canopy will present on Intercropping Cash Crops and Exploring Regenerative Agriculture.
Dr. John Tooker, Professor of Entomology at Penn State University will share on Integrated Pest Management and Soil Health, Slugs and Beetles.
Results of the RC&D On Farm Trial of 25 farmers experimenting with innovative termination methods will be shared. Farmers will share on the realities of implementation and also discuss equipment retrofits that assist with planting green and roller crimping.
Break-out sessions will enable more in-depth conservations about a wide range of topics including:
Livestock Integration (Jason Mauck, CEO of Constant Canopy)
Breaking up Pest Cycles with Crop Rotation (Eric Rosenbaum, Rosetree Consultant)
No-Till and Cover Cropping in Organic Systems (Rodale pending confirmation)
The event is being organized by North Jersey RC&D and is expected to sell-out so be sure to secure your tickets today!
